He has served as president of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and also serves on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance (ACAR). As a physician, he is known for his ability to teach which is essential in infectious disease. Dr. Mandell has been a provider of continuing medical education for physicians and nurses in infectious diseases worldwide for over 30 years, through two major organizations: The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and The American Academy of Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases section. Dr. Mandell has taught hundreds of thousands of health care providers in the United States and abroad. This teaching often takes the form of lectures, courses, symposia, workshops, reviews, and other types of continuing education programs. As a researcher, Dr. Mandell has authored over 500 papers on infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance.
